Although it was the first traditional animated film initiated in the Brigham Young University Animation Program the short film The Lion and the Mouse is the second collaborative traditional animated film to be completed. Due to the complexity of the project and the desire to make the film the best that it could be the production schedule grew considerably and the opportunity to participate on the film extended to students both inside and outside the program.

With the experience that faculty members had previously with Animo while working at DreamWorks Feature and Warner Brothers Feature Animation the software was a natural, and was chosen for it’s ability to handle large projects and streamline production. Additionally the functionality allowed for a wide range of effects to be created through the use of the node based compositing tool Director.

3D elements were created using Maya while backgrounds where painted in Painter and Photoshop.

The film is just now reaching completion and will soon play in the festival market.
Blake Johnson, now a senior in the animation program, is the director of the film.

Michel Gagne Animates Pixar's Ratatouille with Animo

ratatouille

In the Fall of 2006 Pixar contacted Michel Gagne to create a sequence visualizing taste for its upcoming release Ratatouille. Michel created a series of scenes to illustrate potential ideas of how the taste could be visualized in an abstract way.

The Act is touted as an “interactive film experience” but is, in essence, a traditionally-animated video game — the animation of which is created by a slew of ex-Disney Florida employees. Using Animo Cecropia has been able to bring feature quality 2D animation to the game industry.

The Act differs in that it has a focus on subtlety and facial expressions built into the gameplay instead of fast-paced action. The control to the game is a single knob that, when rotated, would advance or retreat the main character’s actions or emotions between two extremes.

"the Frog King" - the good old story about the princess who is meeting a strange fellow in the woods and gets a surprise, newly revised.

The Frog King is the first production Hand Made Pictures realised with Animo. We were surprised and inspired by the various possibilities Animo is offering, especially regarding precision and work flow. Due to its various features lots of work can be saved. Scenes can be changed easily whenever you like to.

It's great how Animo transfers the ink-brush lines, style and hand drawn look are kept
