Cambridge Animation Systems' Distributors Take Advantage of Animo 5.0 Localization
4th June, 2003
ANNECY, France - IMAGICA Digix will soon offer Cambridge Animation Systems' Animo software to Japanese customers in their native language - making the company among the first Animo resellers to take advantage of localization support in Animo 5.0.
Digix, which develops and markets video and digital imaging software and equipment, became an Animo reseller in 1995, after seeing the product in action at the SIGGRAPH show.

"We were convinced that the demand for digitization in the animation industry was very strong," says Shigeru Kakizawa, sales manager at Digix. "We were amazed that Animo had the ability to show pen-touch images and that it was able to handle high-resolution materials."

Animo 5.0, scheduled for release later this summer, allows resellers such as Digix to translate the user interface into their local languages. It also enables studios to use almost any language they wish on the XSheet, the cover sheet, the slate, palettes, filenames, and other elements of the program.

Digix started the translation in mid-May and expects it to be completed early this summer. The staff will ask its Animo customers to test the translated version and report any necessary changes or desired enhancements.

"The translation is not difficult technically, as long as the developers know thoroughly all of the specific words used in the animation industry," Kakizawa says.

While the potential for attracting new sales is one benefit of translating the software, Digix says the move is more about accommodating existing customers. "We are not focusing on profit, although it is also very important," Kakizawa says. "The main reason for the decision to initiate the translation work is to satisfy our customers' demand. We are committed to doing that."

Other Animo resellers are considering translating the Animo user interface to Korean, Chinese, Danish and German. DBS Digital Broadcast Systems GmbH is a distributor for
Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The company will develop a translated version of Animo for its customer base if demand makes it economically viable.

"People working with Animo are usually highly focused, skilled and used to working with English-language products," says Konstantin Themelidis, president and owner of DBS. "However, we do believe that localized products can have a positive impact on sales."
