Animo 5.0 Supports Different Languages; Broadens
Accessibility & Adds Features
4th June, 2003
ANNECY, France - Cambridge Animation Systems adds support for different languages, greater accessibility and new features in Animo 5.0, a major release of the company's 2D animation software. Animo 5.0, scheduled for release later this summer, provides full Unicode support, allowing studios to use almost any language they wish on the XSheet, the cover sheet, the slate, palettes, filenames, and other elements of the program. The entire Animo user interface can be translated into local languages by Animo resellers throughout the world. Ease of Use, Accessibility Several new features in Animo 5.0 make it easier to use and more accessible: * Meta-information about Animo files (scenes, backgrounds, soundtracks, levels and color models, plus all links between them) can be seen in Windows Explorer (on Windows 2000 and XP), without needing to run Animo. * A new Configure application makes it simple to set up output devices, presets, and default settings throughout Animo. * Automatic identification of batch servers saves network configuration time. * The Animo output panel now supports JPEG, PNG and RLE-compressed TGA file formats, and provides access to options such as sound, letterboxing and batch rendering. Turbulence and Other Effects New nodes in Animo's Director module provide the following special effects: * turbulence for realistic animation of everything from clouds to lava lamps; * ability to add random noise with animation-aware controls; * screen, divide and overlay image blending. From Scanning to Screen Animo 5.0 also includes new features that make it easier, faster and more flexible to move from scanning to animation on the computer screen: * access to native TWAIN user interface; * one-bit scanning for speed; * support for Lightfoot round-hole pegbar using standard U.S. three-hole punched paper; * SANE drivers that extend the Mac OS X scanner range. Other new features in Animo 5.0 include updated classification controls in ImageProcessor and InkPaint modules, the ability to save painted drawings as Adobe Illustrator files for marketing purposes, and optional batch rendering when a computer on the network is idle. "Animo 5.0 is a major release that makes it easier than ever to go from conception to production of high-quality cartoon animation," says Phil Barrett, managing director of Cambridge Animation Systems. "The greater efficiency, flexibility, support, control and new effects in the release are in direct response to the needs of our customers and potential customers in the international market." About Animo Animo, developed and marketed by Cambridge Animation Systems (www.cambridgeanimation.com), has an installed base of more than 3,000 seats in nearly 60 countries, offering excellent opportunities to studios throughout the world to work with international partners. Animo software is used for feature films, television series, commercials, games and multimedia development by leading studios worldwide, including DreamWorks SKG, Nelvana Limited, Production IG, Yoram Gross, Uli Meyer, UTV Toons, Telemagination, Praxinos and Colorland.
